Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ghost Recon Wildlands is a tactical open-world shooter from Ubisoft Paris. A US special forces unit fights the Santa Blanca drug cartel in a fictional version of Bolivia. The campaign combines exploring a large game world with free mission planning and third-person combat.

Ghost Recon Wildlands was released on Mar 7, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Steam lists Mar 6, 2017 for the PC version. Both dates refer to the same base game, not to different editions.

Ghost Recon Wildlands was released for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, players can use the older console version via backward compatibility. Since the free Last Rites update in August 2026, the PS4 version on PS5 and PS5 Pro reaches 4K at 60 frames per second, according to Ubisoft. This is not a standalone PS5 release.

Players choose for themselves the order in which they explore provinces and take down cartel leaders. Drones, binoculars, suppressed weapons and synchronised shots support a cautious approach. Anyone who gets spotted must also expect open firefights, car chases and reinforcements from enemy units.

The Narco Road expansion revolves around infiltrating a smuggling ring, with races and challenges. In Fallen Ghosts, the team fights particularly dangerous enemies after a helicopter crash. In August 2026, the free Last Rites update followed with a new story mission, more customization options and additional gear. Numerous free Special Operations content updates were also released over several years.

For the PC version, Steam lists at least a Core i5-2400S or AMD FX-4320, 6 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon R9 270X. A Core i7-3770 or FX-8350, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 970 or a comparable graphics card are recommended. The game requires about 50 GB of storage and a Ubisoft account.

Operation Kingslayer aims to break the power of the Santa Blanca Cartel across several regions. Behind the organization stands El Sueño, whose followers control production, smuggling, influence and security forces. Each region leads to its own leaders and missions.

The campaign can be played alone with computer-controlled teammates or together with up to three other people. In co-op, participants coordinate reconnaissance, shots and attacks. Solo players can give orders to their AI unit and plan their approach accordingly.

Weapons can be adapted to different playstyles using attachments you find. With earned skill points, players can upgrade their drone and team abilities, among other things. Vehicles on land, on water and in the air are available for the long journeys across the landscape.

Ghost War adds tactical competitive matches to Wildlands between two teams of four players each. The battles focus on role distribution, reconnaissance and teamwork between classes rather than the open campaign structure. Later additions brought more classes, maps and a spectator mode.

Ghost Mode changes the campaign with additional rules. A character's death permanently ends their run, friendly fire is possible, and reloading can cost remaining ammo. In addition, the weapons you carry are more strictly limited. The mode works solo or in co-op.

In Guerrilla mode, up to four players defend strategic positions against several waves of attackers. Between attacks, they can buy equipment and upgrades. The mode adds a standalone style of play focused on defense and survival to the open campaign.

The Standard Edition includes the main campaign. The Ultimate Edition bundles the base game with the two major expansions from the first Season Pass, the Year 2 Pass and additional gear. The Definitive Edition, released in 2026, includes the game, both passes and the four packs Quick Start, Deluxe, Nightfall Protocol and Cold Eye. Owners of older editions can also get the extra content through an upgrade.

Last Rites adds a new mission to Ghost Recon Wildlands against the Los Penitentes cult and its leader, La Llorona. The free update permanently expands the game rules. Players can adjust, among other things, time and weather, enemy patrols, alarm systems, the number of weapons, ammo rules and enemy behavior. Options for customizing the HUD and difficulty level have also been expanded. In addition, the Predator encounter, previously available for a limited time, is available again.
