Wing Commander II: the space classic in the restored anniversary edition

In Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi – 35th Anniversary Edition, you take the controls of a space fighter again and battle the feline Kilrathi. The story of the sequel, originally released in 1991, combines tactical space battles with an ongoing military saga, personal conflicts and cinematic cutscenes.

Electronic Arts released this new PC edition on Nov 5, 2026 with support from the Wing Commander community. Unlike a purely cosmetic Deluxe Edition, it offers newly assembled executable versions and technical improvements.

What’s included in the 35th Anniversary Edition?

The package combines the classic DOS version with the Kilrathi Saga Windows port, which was previously hard to find. The built-in community technology Wcdx improves game speed, visuals and controls in the Kilrathi Saga variant. For DOS, WCAT is included, which tunes the historical pace, sound and controls for modern systems.

The restoration team focused especially on the conversations and cutscenes. New features include controller support and optional assist functions, while the original space combat mechanics are kept. Wcdx and WCAT are built-in improvements, not separately sold DLC.

Gameplay and PC platform

The focus is a single-player campaign: you fly missions for the Confederation, react to events of the war against the Kilrathi and must hold your own against different ships in combat. The official Steam version has app ID 2008730 and supports Windows. A build listed as Steam Deck compatible via Proton is not a native Linux version.

Steam lists English as the only verified interface and voice language. Electronic Arts has released an official trailer for this edition. Besides Steam, GOG and the EA app also offer the 2026 restoration. Exact system requirements will only be listed once they are reliably confirmed from official sources.
