Wing Commander: Privateer

In Wing Commander: Privateer you make a living as an independent pilot in the Gemini sector of the Wing Commander universe. Instead of a strictly scripted military campaign, you get an open space adventure: you can legally trade, smuggle valuable cargo, take bounty jobs or become a pirate yourself. On every flight you must earn enough credits to keep your ship combat-ready.

Your journey begins in an old Tarsus-class reconnaissance ship. Through missions, trading and space battles you save up for stronger weapons, shields, engines and new ship types. The Gemini sector contains numerous star systems, bases and trade routes. Some space stations offer lucrative jobs, while other pilots attack you without warning. Within this open world, a story unfolds around a mysterious alien artifact.

Base game and Righteous Fire

The PC version now available on GOG also includes the historical expansion Righteous Fire. It expands the adventure with additional missions, characters and challenges, but it is not a separately required purchase. The expansion is therefore not listed as an additional Deluxe Edition of the base game.

The original from Origin Systems came out in 1993 for DOS. Since November 5, 2026, Electronic Arts has also been selling the classic game on Steam for the first time, alongside GOG and the EA app. The release belongs to EA’s faithful PC classics, not the separately restored Anniversary Edition remakes. The Steam app is Windows-based; GOG offers a DOSBox-based PC version with modern Windows compatibility.
