Release

Rise of the Tomb Raider was first released in November 2015 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The PC version followed on February 9, 2016, and the PlayStation 4 version on October 11, 2016. On June 9, 2026 the 20 Year Celebration was released natively for Nintendo Switch 2.

Gameplay

Rise of the Tomb Raider combines larger exploration areas with climbing, optional tombs, environmental puzzles, hunting and resource gathering. Lara uses collected materials to craft ammunition and equipment and upgrade weapons.

Stealth, bows, firearms and improvised explosives allow different routes through combat. Underwater passages, climbing surfaces and rope mechanics expand movement options in the Siberian areas.

DLCs and expansions

The 20 Year Celebration bundles the base game with the Season Pass and the major expansions. These include Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, Cold Darkness Awakened, Blood Ties, Lara’s Nightmare and the Endurance mode with co-op support.

The extended package also includes outfits, weapons, Expedition Cards, classic Lara models and the Extreme Survivor difficulty.

Nintendo Switch 2

The native Nintendo Switch 2 version was released on June 9, 2026 as 20 Year Celebration. Nintendo lists a download size of 17.6 GB, support for one to two players on one system, and online play for two people.

This version includes the main game and the extensive additional content of the 20 Year Celebration. Since October 22, 2026 it is also part of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy for Switch 2. The collection brings together Lara’s adventures on Yamatai, in Siberia and in Peru.
