Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a complete reinterpretation of the first Tomb Raider from 1996. Lara Croft once again searches for the scattered pieces of the Scion and travels through several historical and mythically charged locations to do so.

Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog keep the basic idea of the original, but rebuild the rooms, movement, puzzles, combat and narrative connections. It is therefore not just a graphical update, but a modern remake of the debut adventure.

The announced release date is Feb 12, 2027. The current official product page and Steam both list the same day. Earlier mentions of 2026 come from older announcement texts and have been replaced by the later date confirmation.

The reinterpretation is coming natively to PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. All four platforms have now been officially confirmed.

Legacy of Atlantis remains a third-person action adventure built on exploration, platforming, puzzles and combat. Lara climbs, jumps and uses a grappling hook, while her dual pistols and other unlockable weapons cover the combat side.

The reinterpretation makes many rooms larger and connects previously separate areas more closely. As a result, paths, puzzles and encounters should feel less linear than in the original.

A story DLC has been announced for the Deluxe Edition after launch. Scope, setting and release date have not been specified yet. More details will follow once Crystal Dynamics or Amazon Games officially announce them.

For the PC version, Steam lists Windows 10 or 11 64-bit and 16 GB RAM as the baseline. The minimum is an Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, plus a GeForce GTX 1070 with 8 GB, RTX 2060 Super or Radeon RX 5700. The recommended specs are a Core i7-9700K or Ryzen 5 5600X, plus an RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 6800 XT. Both profiles require 80 GB of free storage.

The journey takes you through reimagined versions of the regions from the 1996 original: the jungles of Peru, ancient ruins in Greece, the deserts of Egypt and a mysterious Mediterranean island. Lara searches for the scattered pieces of the Scion.

Lost Valley in Peru shows how familiar landmarks are embedded in larger and more connected areas.

Familiar puzzles return in rebuilt form. The developers have, among other things, redesigned the gear puzzle in Lost Valley; the Steam description cites water channels, light beams, pressure plates and symbol systems as examples of puzzle mechanics.

The tighter spatial links are meant to make observation and orientation more important, since clues and mechanisms can be spread across larger areas.

Lara's movement set combines climbing, jumping, swinging and the grappling hook. In combat, she faces wild animals, mercenaries and mythological creatures; alongside the dual pistols, further weapons can be unlocked.

The reimagining links movement, exploration and combat more closely, rather than stringing them together as separate sequences.

The game is built with Unreal Engine 5. Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are rebuilding the familiar locations with modern lighting, higher detail density and significantly larger connected spaces.

On PlayStation 5, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and Tempest 3D Audio are planned, among other features. The PS5 Pro version offers additional image quality options.
