Gameplay
Tales of Berseria uses an evolved version of the Linear Motion Battle System. Attacks and special techniques, called Artes, can be freely assigned to buttons and linked into combos. In battle, the Soul Gauge plays a central role: successful actions expand the options for further attacks, while risky moves can use up resources.

Velvet's journey through Midgand
Velvet's life changes after an event that happened three years before the adventure begins. In her search for revenge, she joins an unusual group that includes the young Laphicet, among others. The journey crosses several islands and repeatedly pits emotion against reason. The characters' differing beliefs drive the story forward.

Six playable characters
Six characters with their own fighting styles are available as the story progresses. Velvet relies on aggressive chain attacks, while other members of the group use different weapons and Artes. The makeup of your active party affects how quickly you can interrupt enemies and which combinations work especially well.

Artes and custom controls
Players can adapt their attack chains to their preferences by assigning several Artes to different buttons. This lets you link quick hits, special techniques and stronger follow-up moves into your own sequences. The tactical challenge comes less from rigid turns than from positioning, resources and good timing.

Places, islands and side quests
The journey takes you through cities, dungeons and landscapes of the island realm of Midgand. Between the main chapters there are conversations, optional encounters and extra activities. The game world is not one continuous area, but made up of connected locations that open up as the story progresses.

Single-player and local multiplayer
The story is designed as a single-player adventure. In battles, the original version also supports local multiplayer on suitable systems when extra input devices are connected. This feature is not a separate online co-op mode. Steam marks the PC version with local multiplayer support.
