What is Mega Man: Dual Override?
Mega Man: Dual Override is the next new entry in Capcom’s classic action platformer series. The game stays true to the side-scrolling jump-&-run foundation but expands it with two independently playable heroes, modern checkpoints and new systems for builds and short-term power spikes.
Mega Man continues to rely on ranged attacks and the abilities of defeated Robot Masters. Proto Man plays much more aggressively, seeks melee combat and combines his Proto Buster with offensive and defensive shield techniques. Both characters have their own strengths and progression paths.

Gameplay
Dual Override remains a classic side-scroller with precise jumps, robots, mini-bosses and Robot Masters, but it modernizes several familiar routines. Checkpoints replace the old lives pressure, and the slide sits on its own button.
Mega Man fights mainly from a distance. Custom Chips provide active or passive advantages, including protection, stronger Buster attacks or support from Rush. In total, more than 50 chips have been announced, so builds can focus more on offense, survival or mobility.
Proto Man is built for short range. His Proto Buster hits especially hard up close, while Shield Actions let him use the Proto Shield both offensively and defensively. New shield techniques are unlocked through boss progress. Using them too often causes Proto Man to overheat.
The namesake Override system boosts both heroes considerably for a short time. However, the power surge is followed by a more vulnerable phase. The right moment to use Override thus becomes part of risk management, especially in boss fights.
The eight classic boss stages are retained, but this time each is divided into three sections. After completing a section, you can switch to another boss stage. This lets you gather equipment and experience step by step, without having to play through a stage completely up to the Robot Master right away.

Robot Masters and special weapons
The confirmed Robot Masters include Jet Man, Twinkle Girl and Astro Man, returning from Mega Man 8. Jet Man leads an aerobatic display squadron and can switch to a flight form in combat.
After defeating Jet Man, Mega Man receives the special weapon Jet Stinger. It fires him forward at high speed, flings hit enemies away and can slam them into other enemies. At the same time, Jet Stinger serves as a mobility tool to cross larger gaps and platforming sections.

Game series
Mega Man: Dual Override belongs to the classic Mega Man series and releases in the year of its 40th anniversary. Capcom announced the game in late 2025 as the Blue Bomber’s new comeback.
Proto Man is more than just a companion figure. After his earlier role as a playable character in Mega Man 10, he gets a full combat repertoire of his own again in Dual Override, with shield techniques and his own progression. His return forms a clear counterpoint to Mega Man’s classic ranged style.
