Resident Evil 3

Resident Evil 3 is Capcom’s reimagining of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis from 1999. Jill Valentine tries to escape the city during the collapse of Raccoon City, while the bioweapon Nemesis specifically hunts remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. Carlos Oliveira is also playable in separate sections.

Resident Evil 3 released on Apr 3, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S followed on June 14, 2022. On Mar 18, 2025, native versions for iPhone, iPad and Mac were added. The standalone Nintendo Switch 2 version has been available since Oct 16, 2026.

Native versions exist for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, iPhone/iPad and Nintendo Switch 2. The Mac version belongs to the PC version; iPhone and iPad together count as iOS. The older Nintendo Switch release was a cloud version and is therefore not modeled as a native Switch release.

Resident Evil 3 combines third-person survival horror with a more aggressive combat pace. Ammo, healing items and inventory space remain limited; at the same time, Jill’s dodge moves reward precise timing. Weapons can be upgraded with found parts, while key items and puzzles structure exploration.

Nemesis repeatedly appears as the central threat and changes its attacks over the course of the game. Carlos has his own playable sections with a combat style focused more on firepower.

On Windows, the Steam version requires at least Windows 10 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX-6300, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon RX 460, DirectX 12 and 45 GB storage. Recommended are a Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-9590, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 480 with 3 GB VRAM.

The native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S were released on June 14, 2022. Capcom added higher output resolutions, higher frame rates, ray tracing and 3D audio; on PS5, DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers are added. For eligible owners of the PS4 version, PlayStation provides the digital PS5 version at no extra cost.

Since Mar 18, 2025, Resident Evil 3 has been natively available on compatible iPhone, iPad and Mac devices. The iPhone/iPad version supports touch controls and controllers; on Mac, mouse and keyboard as well as supported controllers are offered. Capcom describes the core content as identical to the other versions, with platform-specific differences in controls and technology.

The native Nintendo Switch 2 version has been available since Oct 16, 2026. Nintendo lists it as a separate Switch 2 game and names Jill’s classic outfit and Carlos’ classic hairstyle as included content alongside the main game. This version should be distinguished from the older cloud version for Nintendo Switch.
