What is Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the third and final part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project, following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud and his companions continue the hunt for Sephiroth, while the conflict over the planet enters its final phase.
Revelation takes the group into a larger, freely explorable world. The Highwind becomes the central means of travel: with the airship, you can reach regions from the air and choose your own landing zones. Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine join as fully playable party members.

Platforms
Native versions are confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. On PC, the game will be available via Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC. A PS4, Xbox One or original Switch version has not been announced.
On PS5 Pro, Revelation gets its own mode supported by PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which according to Director Naoki Hamaguchi is meant to combine 4K image quality with 60 FPS. PlayStation accordingly lists the game as “PS5 Pro Enhanced”. The standard PS5 version remains fully playable independently of this.

Gameplay
Revelation keeps the mix of real-time action and tactical commands and expands it with new playable characters and systems. Vincent Valentine switches between firearms and a monster form, while Cid Highwind uses his spear to pressure enemies, mainly in the air.
Also new is the FITS system. Four specialised roles (Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner) change the abilities available. In the demo shown at Tokyo Game Show 2026, the path led through the Whirlwind Maze to a battle against Jenova Death. Exploration combines classic field sections with climbing and jumping passages, while outside this demo, the Highwind allows a much freer journey across the planet.
The mini-games are also being developed further. The Moogle family from Rebirth returns with a new story, has given up its merchant job and now tries its luck as a Moogle idol group. This includes a new stage mini-game. According to Director Naoki Hamaguchi, the Moogle area has also been made more accessible, after the Rebirth mini-game was received very differently by players.
For players who focus almost exclusively on the main story, Revelation also includes an optional auto-level feature. At certain points, the game can offer to automatically raise the party to the level recommended for the next part of the story. The feature is intended as an alternative for players who want to skip large parts of the optional content. Regular exploration and levelling are unaffected.
How large the full package will be cannot yet be stated as a firm playtime before release. However, in September 2026, Director Naoki Hamaguchi told GameSpot that a complete internal test run, in which every single asset and element is checked, could take slightly more than 100 hours. At that point, he had already completed 46 different test runs, some with different focuses. This is not an official figure for the regular main story playtime, but it shows the scope Square Enix is testing for the trilogy's finale.

System requirements
No specific hardware requirements have been published for the PC version yet. The official store listings still list minimum and recommended specifications as pending.
Storage and physical release details are already available for the console versions. On Nintendo Switch 2, the download of the Game-Key Card version requires at least 130 GB of free storage. The physical versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S also require an internet connection, because additional game data must be downloaded. A final install size for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has not yet been officially broken down.

WEAPON bosses and optional challenges
The huge WEAPON creatures in Revelation are part of both the main story and optional side content. Director Naoki Hamaguchi describes their own mechanics and interactive elements. Some encounters even integrate mini-game elements and are built to be more strategic.
The optional encounters are designed as significantly harder challenges. They may require a higher party level than finishing the main story. As a result, the creatures add a lasting endgame layer alongside their story role.

Rocket Town, Cid and space travel
Rocket Town is realised as a larger location and revisits Cid's personal history with Shera, as well as Shinra's rocket programme. According to Hamaguchi, the journey into space is also part of this story arc.
Inside Rocket Town, Cid's car is available as his own means of transport. You can play music while driving, and more tracks can be unlocked through side content. This section expands Cid's role and gets its own exploration structure.

Zack as a playable character
Zack Fair gets larger playable sections in Revelation than he did in Rebirth. These sequences are more closely tied to the main storyline and give Zack his own combat system.
In addition, Zack has his own character progression, which Hamaguchi compares to a skill tree. This gives him independent gameplay progression within his story sections.

Physical edition
The physical console versions of Final Fantasy VII Revelation require additional downloads. For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Square Enix explicitly states that an internet connection is needed to download further game data.
On Nintendo Switch 2, the physical version comes as a Game-Key Card. The game data is downloaded on first launch, and Square Enix states that at least 130 GB of free storage is required.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi now puts the expected size at roughly 200 GB. This figure is the technical reason why Square Enix, despite the physical packaging, does not put all game data on one or two Blu-ray discs.
