Tekken 7

Tekken 7 is a three-dimensional fighting game from Bandai Namco Studios. Two characters face off in arenas, with spacing, timing and the right response to opponent attacks deciding the fight. The home version combines competitive play with a story campaign around the Mishima family.

Tekken 7 was released on Steam for PC on June 1, 2017, and for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 2, 2017. The original arcade version came before the home versions.

Tekken 7 was released as a standalone version for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On newer PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the older version can be played, but a separate PS5 or Xbox Series version was not released.

Attacks are performed with four buttons for the left and right arms and legs. Combos link hits into longer attack strings, while sidesteps, throws and blocking shape close-range combat. The 3D movement is especially helpful for dodging linear attacks.

Tekken 7 received four Season Passes with characters, arenas, costumes and individual extra features. The additions include Geese Howard, Noctis, Anna, Armor King, Leroy Smith, Fahkumram, Kunimitsu and Lidia Sobieska. The frame data display, offered as extra content, shows detailed values for individual attacks.

For the PC version, Steam lists at least an Intel Core i3-4160, 6 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 660 with 2 GB VRAM. Recommended are a Core i5-4690, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 1060. The installation requires 60 GB of free storage.

When health is low, particularly dangerous Rage techniques become available. Rage Arts are cinematic special attacks, while Rage Drives build pressure or extend attack strings in the right situation. Power Crush attacks can absorb certain opponent hits during your own attack move.

The campaign focuses on the conflict between Heihachi Mishima and his son Kazuya. Shifting perspectives and cinematic sequences explain the family history and lead it to a decisive confrontation. Akuma from Street Fighter enters the events as a guest character.

Alongside the story campaign, Tekken 7 offers classic arcade fights, practice options and Treasure Battle, among other modes. In training, you can test moves, hit combos and defence in a targeted way. The PS4 version also includes a jukebox mode with music from earlier Tekken games.

Two people can compete against each other in person. Online, duels and tournament features are available for competing against other players. If you want to improve your techniques, you can first practise offline against the AI or in training mode.

The roster includes long-running series faces such as Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi and King, as well as new fighters. Akuma brings Tekken together with Street Fighter. Later add-on content included Geese Howard from Fatal Fury, Noctis from Final Fantasy XV and Negan from The Walking Dead.

The standard version includes the base game. The Originals Edition adds selected extra characters and the frame data display. The Definitive Edition combines the game with Eliza and Season Passes 1 to 4. Individual content is also sold separately, so its components can be compared before you buy.
