NBA 2K20

NBA 2K20 is a basketball simulation by Visual Concepts featuring the 2019/20 NBA teams, historical teams and, for the first time, all twelve WNBA teams. Alongside exhibition games, the original scope included Career mode, managing your own franchise and online game modes. The official online services have since been shut down.

NBA 2K20 was released on Sep 6, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Mobile versions for iOS and Android followed in September 2019. A further version was added at the launch of the Stadia streaming service on Nov 19, 2019. This Stadia version has been unplayable since the platform was closed.

Standalone versions were released for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android and Google Stadia. The original PS4 and Xbox One games are not native releases for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Google shut down Stadia on Jan 18, 2023.

On the court, attacks depend on passing, shot timing, movement and defense. Dribbling was expanded for NBA 2K20, as were off-ball movement and reactions to contact. Individual matches can be played against the computer or with several people on one device.

According to Steam, the PC version requires at least a Core i3-530 or FX-4100, 4 GB RAM, a GeForce GT 450 or Radeon HD 7770 and 80 GB of free storage. A Core i5-4430 or FX-8370, 8 GB RAM and a GTX 770 or R9 270 are recommended. Steam itself now requires Windows 10 or newer.

NBA 2K20 includes all twelve teams of the Women's National Basketball Association with their players for the first time. The WNBA teams can be used in head-to-head matches and a season mode. Custom animations and movement sequences were created for them.

In Career mode, you follow a rising basketball player on the road to the NBA. The narrative part was directed by Sheldon Candis and features appearances by Idris Elba and Rosario Dawson. The built-in MyPLAYER editor sets the skills and development of your own character. Server-based career features are no longer available today.

With MyGM and MyLEAGUE, you manage an NBA team across seasons, build the roster and decide on trades and development. The management game combines sporting results with decisions off the court. Offline variants need to be distinguished from online leagues that have since been shut down.

NBA 2K20 also features historical teams, including the 2015/16 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013/14 San Antonio Spurs. The game also includes All-Decade teams from different eras. This makes it possible to play matches with rosters that do not belong to the current season of the original release year.

MyTEAM was the card collecting mode for custom-built basketball teams. Players could use card packs, challenges and the Triple Threat mode. Because MyTEAM relied on 2K servers, it can no longer be played since they were shut down. The digital currencies offered earlier do not change this.

The online servers for NBA 2K20 were shut down on Dec 31, 2021. Online matches, MyTEAM and other features that rely on server connections have been unavailable since then. Content playable against the computer and local matches remain generally separate, as long as they do not require a server connection.

NBA 2K20 is no longer available on the regular Steam store. If you already own a compatible PC or console version, you can still use its intended offline features. Stadia as a platform has been fully shut down since Jan 18, 2023. When buying older editions, you should therefore not expect online modes to keep working.

NBA 2K20 was released in several editions. Anthony Davis was the cover star of the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, while Dwyane Wade featured on the Legend Edition. The higher-priced editions mainly included digital extra currency, collectible cards and cosmetic content. Such bonuses do not make up standalone basketball games.
