NBA 2K22

NBA 2K22 is a basketball simulation from Visual Concepts with NBA and WNBA teams, career mode, team management and basketball games. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions differ from PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch mainly in their career and city features.

Since the online services ended on December 31, 2023, several original game modes can no longer be used. Basketball games and certain management modes still work offline.

NBA 2K22 was released internationally on September 10, 2021 for six platforms. On PC, Steam shows September 9 for some regions. The online services were shut down on December 31, 2023. This permanent change affects access to MyTEAM, parts of MyCAREER and multiplayer games.

NBA 2K22 was released natively on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions have the large City, while on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch the cruise ship Cancha del Mar forms the career game world.

The versions for the two console generations are standalone editions. The former Cross-Gen Digital Bundle gave access to both versions within PlayStation or Xbox.

The basketball game combines position-dependent shots with active defending. The shot meter changes depending on the shooting position, the player's abilities and the defender's coverage. Blocks, defensive rotations and dribbling have also been reworked.

The Dunk Style Creator lets you put together finishing animations. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, special takeover improvements are added.

Expansion packs delivered virtual currency, MyTEAM cards and items for your player. They mainly enhanced the online modes and did not include a standalone story campaign.

Since the online services were shut down on December 31, 2023, these former online bonuses can no longer be used. This has no effect on the offline basketball games, which remain playable.

The original PC minimum requirements list an Intel Core i3-2100 or AMD FX-4100, 4 GB RAM, a GeForce GT 450 or Radeon HD 7770, and 110 GB storage. SSE 4.2 and AVX are required.

Recommended: Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD FX-8370, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 770 or Radeon R9 270. The historical details for Windows 7 and 8.1 are not equivalent to today's minimum version of the Steam client.

MyCAREER takes a player you create into professional basketball. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the career tasks are linked to the City, including activities off the court. On PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch, Cancha del Mar is the main hub.

Since the online services were shut down, the server-dependent career features are no longer available.

The City is a walkable basketball city on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with courts, tasks and other activities. The other versions use the Neighborhood on the cruise ship Cancha del Mar. There, the basketball courts are spread across several decks.

Both social game worlds were among the online features that can no longer be fully used today due to the server shutdown.

MyTEAM let you build your own team from current pros and legends using digital player cards. Card packs, virtual currency and competitions were central elements.

MyTEAM has not worked since Dec 31, 2023. As a result, the related bonuses from the special editions can no longer be used as originally intended.

The management modes focus on planning a basketball team over longer periods. The roster, league operations and team development are the main focus. The names and features of these modes differ between console generations.

MyNBA or MyLEAGUE are among the game modes that, according to 2K, remain available offline.

NBA 2K22 includes licensed WNBA teams for basketball games. The newer console versions expand the lineup with The W and MyWNBA, which have their own career and management features.

2K lists both modes among the content that can still be played offline. Regular games with WNBA teams also remain possible.

Play Now, MyNBA or MyLEAGUE, 2KU, MyWNBA and The W are still offline modes. These include regular games, practice and team management.

MyTEAM, the online-linked parts of MyCAREER and multiplayer games via 2K servers can no longer be used. The shutdown from Dec 31, 2023 is permanent, not a temporary outage.

The Standard Edition includes a platform version of NBA 2K22. The Cross-Gen Digital Bundle gave access to both PlayStation or Xbox generations. The NBA 75th Anniversary Edition also included player cards, virtual currency and digital extras.

Because the online services have been shut down, the server-based bonuses from that time can no longer be used. The separate NBA 2K22 Arcade Edition for Apple Arcade is a different game product.

The PC version has a German user interface. According to Steam, the voice audio is English. Besides German, French, Italian, Spanish and other languages are available for the menus.

A full German dub of the basketball commentary is not listed on Steam.
