What is Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective?

Alloyed Collective is the third major expansion for Risk of Rain 2. Two additional survivors, new regions and an arsenal focused on drones expand the action roguelike. The base game is required.

The new dangers are linked to the Solus machines on Petrichor V. Their areas range from rusted industrial plants to remote canyons. If you complete the new route, you can face an alternative final boss.

Operator and Drifter: The new survivors

Operator fights mainly through his controlled drones. He can use companions for attacks, healing and movement, and combine several actions while marking targets.

Drifter, by contrast, relies on improvised weapons and loot. Enemies can drop scrap, which it uses for temporary items or direct attacks. The two characters therefore demand different decisions about resources and positioning.

Seven new areas on Petrichor V

The new locations lead deeper into the Solus facilities. Pretender’s Precipice consists of tangled scrapyards and dangerous differences in height. In Iron Alluvium, paths lead through a dusty mining facility. Conduit Canyon finally requires you to activate energy nodes before the way forward opens.

In addition to seven levels, the expansion includes another variant for later runs. The new areas expand the familiar system of teleporters, random encounters and growing danger.

Drones, shops and combinations

Seven additional drone types support attack, defence and supply. The Bombardment Drone leaves dangerous zones on the ground, while the Freeze Drone slows enemy groups. The Cleanup Drone converts fallen enemies into resources.

Additional drones can trap enemies, grant protection or mark targets. Dedicated drone shops and a combination station expand the options for using several companions in the same run.

18 new items and six enemy types

Alloyed Collective adds 18 items with effects for damage, movement and drones. Hiker's Boots reward certain movement actions, while Box of Dynamite makes your own drone fleet more offensive.

Among the six new standard enemies, some directly disrupt your equipment. The Solus Invalidator can temporarily disable items. The Solus Scorcher combines flammable oil with fire attacks.

New bosses and an alternative ending

Two new teleporter boss fights change the intermediate goals of runs. At the end of a new route, Solus Wing waits as an additional final boss.

The alternative ending adds a new path to Risk of Rain 2. To reach it, you have to fight through the new Solus areas.

How does Alloyed Collective work in co-op?

In multiplayer, it's enough for one person in the lobby to own Alloyed Collective. Then the new areas, enemies and items can appear for everyone in a shared run.

If you don't own the DLC yourself, you can't select Operator or Drifter. New items and logbook entries also can't be permanently unlocked without owning it.

Game series

Gearbox Software developed Alloyed Collective, and 2K appears as publisher on Steam. The expansion builds on the Risk of Rain gameplay established by Hopoo Games.

Alloyed Collective introduces new systems into the existing third-person formula, rather than starting a separate campaign outside Risk of Rain 2. The Solus Collective forms the thematic centre.
