Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm

Seekers of the Storm is the second major expansion for Risk of Rain 2. It adds to the roguelike runs on Petrichor V with new survivors, several landscapes, additional equipment and a special route to the boss False Son.

The paid add-on requires the base game. The familiar teleporter runs remain, but gain new possible routes and encounters.

Seekers of the Storm was released on Aug 27, 2024. On that day the expansion launched for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The new PS5 and Xbox Series versions of the main game were also released on Aug 27, 2024.

The release therefore took place on the existing consoles and the standalone versions for the newer generation.

The expansion is available for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. To play, Risk of Rain 2 is required on the respective platform.

If you use a Switch 2, you need to distinguish between possible backward compatibility of the Switch version and a standalone Switch 2 release. A separate native Switch 2 launch is not confirmed.

The expansion adds new options to the randomly assembled runs. Additional areas, enemies and rewards change the sequence of combat and exploration. The Colossus's Path forms a special route, at the end of which the False Son waits.

Even players who have already mastered several characters in the main game have to adapt to new enemy combinations and the abilities of additional survivors.

Seekers of the Storm adds three playable survivors, additional items, environments and variants of familiar stages. An extra boss and a separate route to the finale are also part of the expansion.

The content is integrated into the existing Risk of Rain 2. The base game is neither replaced nor automatically included with the DLC.

Steam lists the minimum requirements as an Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD FX-8350, 4 GB RAM, a GTX 580 or Radeon HD 7870, and DirectX 11. Recommended are a Core i5-4670K or Ryzen 5 1500X and a GTX 680 or Radeon HD 7970. The drive should have 4 GB free.

Older Windows versions still appear in the historical requirements. Since January 2024, the Steam client supports Windows 10 and newer.

Seeker combines short attack range with healing abilities and can, under certain conditions, bring allies back into the game. Chef relies on returning cleavers and mid-range combat. False Son is a tough melee fighter who can also attack enemies with thrown moon spears.

Seeker is available directly to owners of the expansion. Chef and False Son are unlocked through progress in the game.

On the Path of the Colossus, survivors fight through several stages to reach False Son. The extra route leads to its own climax and expands the goals beyond the usual Teleporter progression.

After defeating False Son, you can also unlock him as a playable character.

The expansion adds the Reformed Altar, the Treeborn Colony and the Helminth Hatchery, among others. Ancient temples, dense tree canopies and caves create new lines of sight and different combat conditions.

The regions are part of the expanded pool of possible stages in a run.

New items change damage, movement, survivability and how active abilities work together. At the same time, more enemy types and elite variants are added that require different target priorities.

The additional items can combine with equipment from the base game and other expansions to form new combinations.

If someone in the lobby owns Seekers of the Storm, the other players can experience extra locations, enemies and items together. Without owning it yourself, however, you cannot select the three new survivors. Permanent unlocks from the expansion also remain reserved for owners.

The online co-op of Risk of Rain 2 supports up to four players.

Steam lists German as a supported interface language. Other languages include English, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese, among others. Full German voice acting is not confirmed in the language details.

On PC the game supports controllers. Specific control options may differ between platforms.
