Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts

Hallowed Concepts is the fourth paid expansion for the action roguelike Risk of Rain 2 by Gearbox Software. It brings the two survivors Enforcer and Acolyte, new areas and bosses, special trials, items and the N'Tormat system into the existing game world of Petrichor V. The expansion revolves around N'Kuhana and the price of new power.

The DLC is not a standalone game. On every platform, the matching base game Risk of Rain 2 is required. The new systems expand regular runs and add new risk and reward decisions to the familiar flow.

The expansion was released on Oct 8, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This date is confirmed in the official store listings. Hallowed Concepts follows the larger expansions Survivors of the Void, Seekers of the Storm and Alloyed Collective.

The add-on was released natively for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version is sold through Steam, among others. The base game is required there and in the console stores. The PlayStation and Xbox pages explicitly list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S respectively as platforms for this expansion.

Separate DLC versions for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 are not confirmed. The availability of the base game on other platforms or a mixed bundle is no proof of native Hallowed Concepts support.

As in the base game, a survivor explores dangerous areas, fights monsters and collects equipment for ever stronger enemies. Hallowed Concepts adds three new standard areas, several special trial areas, additional bosses and monsters, and new interaction options to regular runs.

The expansion therefore doesn't just introduce more enemies. New finds and risky trials change the decisions possible during a run. N'Tormat pages and hexes give exploration new goals.

Hallowed Concepts is DLC for the existing Risk of Rain 2. The add-on content cannot be played without the base game. Four major expansions have now been released: Survivors of the Void, Seekers of the Storm, Alloyed Collective and Hallowed Concepts.

The accompanying free patch from Oct 8, 2026 is separate from this. Gearbox has introduced, among other things, six new skills for survivors from the original game and the optional Karma system for the Moon final encounter. According to 2K, these new features are part of the general update, not exclusive to the paid DLC.

Steam lists at least an Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD FX-8350, 4 GB RAM, an Nvidia GTX 580 or AMD HD 7870 and 4 GB of free storage for the Windows version. An Intel Core i5-4670K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, as well as a GTX 680 or HD 7970, are recommended.

The product page mentions older Windows versions, but the current Steam client has only supported Windows 10 and later since 2024. These PC details do not count as console specifications.

Enforcer is playable directly once you acquire the add-on. He relies on cover and defensive control, but can also push forward offensively. Acolyte must be unlocked first. Their style combines glaive melee with ranged attacks, trading extra power for their own life energy.

The two characters therefore play in fundamentally different ways. They are part of the paid DLC and cannot be selected without your own Hallowed Concepts license.

Three trial types shape part of the expansion. Winnowing of Survival focuses on survival, Winnowing of Predation on hunting a target and Winnowing of Mortality on a race against time. There are also several trial stages.

Together with the new regular stages and boss types, additional challenges arise within the Risk of Rain 2 game structure.

The new Hexes system links drawbacks with possible benefits. According to the official patch notes, 14 Hexes and eleven Hallowed Items are available. Three additional standard items add to the selection.

The new curio N'Tormat lets players collect pages to unlock special abilities, but they have to accept a price for this. Both systems make risk-versus-reward trade-offs a permanent part of the expansion.

In co-op, according to the store listings, one owner of the expansion in the lobby is enough for new areas, enemies and items to appear in that run. However, players who don't own the DLC themselves cannot select the new survivors, and they also cannot permanently unlock DLC items or logbook entries.

Unlocking most of the world content for other players is therefore separate from the personal character and collection expansions.
