What is Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection?

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is a standalone turn-based role-playing game from Capcom's Monster Hunter world. As a Rider, players collect Monsties, assemble teams and explore the kingdoms of Azuria and Vermeil.

At the centre are two Rathalos that hatch from a single egg. Their birth threatens to reignite a long-smouldering conflict, while the wildlife suffers from mysterious changes.

Platforms

Official versions have been released for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A native version for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or the original Nintendo Switch is not confirmed.

The announced Windows version in the Xbox ecosystem enables Xbox Play Anywhere. This includes shared save games and content on Xbox Series and supported Windows PCs. The announcement does not say whether these benefits work with the separate Steam version.

Gameplay

Riders explore the game world from the third-person perspective and assemble teams from bred Monsties. Battles run in turns: if you align the abilities of your companions with each other, you can target enemies more effectively than with a merely strong single monster.

An important part of the game's rhythm is therefore the switch between exploration, finding and hatching eggs, assembling your team and battles. The third Stories instalment is a single-player role-playing game, not a real-time action game like the main series.

DLCs and expansions

The additional content Side Story: Rudy tells more about the royal Palico who accompanies the protagonist. Capcom lists it as part of the Deluxe Kit as well as the Deluxe and Premium Deluxe Editions. There are also cosmetic packs with gear and outfits.

When choosing an edition, take a close look at the content already included: an edition pack is not a separate new main game.

Habitat Restoration and biodiversity

With Habitat Restoration, players can release Monsties back into their habitats. This changes the rank of the respective ecosystem. The game mechanic addresses the central problem of endangered monster species in the story and links collecting with the development of the environment.

If you want to meet as many different companions as possible, this gives you another task beyond the linear story.

Endgame after the main story

After completing the story, additional tough challenges become available. Capcom describes a harder version of the final boss fight, followed by especially strong Royal variants and further dangerous monster species. Access requires a completed save game and the current save game of the product.

The focus is on developing an existing Monstie group, not on time-limited multiplayer events.

Demo and differences between editions

Alongside the Standard Edition come Deluxe and Premium Deluxe versions with bundled additional content. The Deluxe Edition includes, among other things, Rudy's additional story. The Premium Deluxe Edition adds further cosmetic items.

Capcom also provides a demo version. Anyone who tries it can, according to the publisher, carry their progress over into the full version. The demo is a starting point, not a substitute for the full campaign.

What Xbox Play Anywhere actually brings

On Nov 18, 2026, the new Windows distribution version is set to appear in the Xbox ecosystem. Xbox Play Anywhere links play on Xbox Series X|S and Windows 11 PCs: according to Capcom, save games, achievements and additional content carry over between supported devices, without having to buy the game again there.

Important: This is not the date for the first PC release, as the Steam version was already available in March. The existence of a Steam version is also no proof of automatic transfer of Steam save games to Xbox Play Anywhere.
