What is Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance?
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is the major paid expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds. Capcom continues the story of the expedition team after the end of the base game and adds new ranks, areas, monsters and additional weapon actions to the hunt.
Ascendance requires an existing copy of the base game and is aimed at hunters who want to keep going after the main story. In terms of content, the expansion is much bigger than an ordinary title update: Capcom explicitly describes a “massive expansion” and introduces a new progression tier with the Master Rank.

Gameplay
Ascendance expands the familiar hunt structure of Monster Hunter Wilds with the Master Rank, new quests, additional monsters and new areas. Central is the Boost System: the Boost Bracer lets you activate weapon-specific Boost Actions that strengthen existing attacks or open up new movement and attack options.
The Boost gauge fills during combat and can be built up further through hits. When activated, wounded monster parts can be exploited with Focus Strikes to maintain pressure. The system affects all 14 weapon types and expands their existing combos, rather than adding a separate combat system alongside the hunt.

Sky ruins and new monsters
Ascendance takes hunters into the Sky Ruins, an area of floating islands and strong updrafts. With the Seikret, players can use air currents to glide between the islands. There, Araketa attacks together with its pack and coordinates the attacks of several monsters.
Familiar creatures return too: Elder Dragon Teostra uses additional attack patterns. Capcom has also confirmed Khezu with its electric attacks for the expansion.

Story, Madoi and the road to Master Rank
The expansion continues the story after the end of Monster Hunter Wilds. The attack of the mighty Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung sets new events in motion and leads to the construction of the fortress Madoi. From there, the next stage of the expedition begins into previously unexplored regions.
Ascendance is therefore not a standalone side episode, but a direct continuation of the base game. The new Master Rank forms the lasting progression layer for the additional hunts and gear goals.
