Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is the eighth main entry in the Resident Evil series. Capcom continues Ethan Winters’ story a few years after Resident Evil 7 and combines first-person survival horror with exploration, resource management and much more action-packed combat.

The story takes Ethan to a remote European village, whose regions are shaped by different enemies and rulers. The village itself serves as a central hub that is visited repeatedly.

Capcom lists May 7, 2021 as the worldwide release date for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. On October 30, 2023, a native version for supported iPhone, iPad and Mac devices followed.

Since February 27, 2026, Resident Evil Village Gold Edition is also natively available for Nintendo Switch 2. The earlier Switch version from 2022 was a cloud version and is therefore not listed as a native Switch release.

Native versions are available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, iOS/iPadOS and Nintendo Switch 2. The Apple version also runs on supported Macs with Apple chips.

The Switch 2 Gold Edition is its own native release, not a mere backward-compatible version.

Resident Evil Village remains a single-player survival horror game from a first-person perspective. Ethan explores the village and surrounding areas, solves environmental puzzles, manages ammo and healing items, and gradually opens new paths with keys and tools.

Compared to Resident Evil 7, combat takes a more central role. Weapons can be upgraded at the merchant Duke, while treasures and resources found along the way fund upgrades. The structure combines recurring paths through the village with larger, more clearly defined locations.

The Winters’ Expansion was released on October 27, 2022. It adds a third-person mode for the main story, additional content for The Mercenaries and the new story scenario Shadows of Rose.

The Gold Edition bundles the base game with the Winters’ Expansion and the Trauma Pack. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is offered as the Gold Edition and includes this permanent bonus content.

Steam lists at least Windows 10 (64-bit), an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or Intel Core i5-7500, 8 GB RAM, a Radeon RX 560 with 4 GB VRAM or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB VRAM, and DirectX 12. Recommended are a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700, 16 GB RAM, and Radeon RX 5700 or GeForce GTX 1070.

The PS5 version includes a dedicated Resident Evil Village VR Mode for PlayStation VR2. It brings the main story to VR and is listed on PlayStation as an additional part of the PS5 version.

Capcom brought Resident Evil Village natively to supported iPhone, iPad and Mac devices in 2023. The Apple version supports controllers and includes the Winters’ Expansion as additional content.

On February 27, 2026, the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition followed for Nintendo Switch 2. It is a native Switch 2 release and includes the base game, the Winters’ Expansion and the Trauma Pack.
